Escholtzia mexicana, Poppy family (Papaveraceae)
Flowers: 4 bright gold petals, cupped, to 1 1/2" wide, on individual stems.
Leaves: Blue-green, lacy fern-like leaves, to 2 1/2" long .
Height: Grows to 16".
Photographed March 17, in Superstition Mountain area.
Typically found in flat areas and desert slopes.
