New Mexico Thistle
Cirsium neomexicanum, Sunflower family (Compositae)
Flowers: Rounded pinkish-purple flowerhead, to 2" wide.
Leaves: Dark green, shiny, with thorny edges, to 7" long.
Height: Grows to 6'.
Photographed April 3, near Superstition Mountain.
Typically found above 1,000' elevation, foothills or plains.
