Chainfruit Cholla
Opuntia fulgida, Cactus family (Cactaceae)
Flowers:	Small pink to lavendar flower with creamy white center (to 3/4" wide), forms on previous year's fruit, then produces fruit which becomes next link in the chain.
Cactus:	Jointed sections with light green bumpy surface and clusters of long spines (to 1 1/4").
Height:	May grow to 15'.
Photographed June 20, in the Superstition Mountain area. Typically found in flat desert areas.
